Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process from the initial consultation to installation?
Our process typically begins with an initial consultation to discuss your property, goals, ideas, and budget. If your project would benefit from a schematic landscape plan, we will establish a design fee and schedule a time to return to the property for detailed measurements. From there, our team develops the plan using our CAD design software. We can also provide a color rendering if you would like a more realistic visualization of the finished project. Once the design is finalized, we prepare a detailed proposal for the installation and package everything together for your review. If you decide to move forward with Garden Gates for the installation, the schematic design fee is credited toward your installation invoice. Our goal is to make the process straightforward—from the first conversation through design, pricing, and ultimately bringing the project to life.
How much do landscape plans cost?
Landscape plans typically start at $500, with the final design fee depending on the size, scope, and complexity of the project. If you move forward with us for the installation, the schematic design fee can be credited toward your installation.
Do I need a design before receiving a quote?
Not necessarily. For straightforward projects such as landscape cleanups, removals, or smaller improvements, we can typically provide a free quote without a formal design. For larger renovations or projects with multiple components, a landscape plan helps us develop a cohesive design and provide more accurate pricing.
Can you work within a specific budget and phase the project?
Absolutely. We actually love when clients give us a budget to work within. It allows us to prioritize the most important elements and develop realistic solutionsfor your property. We can also create a long-term plan and divide the installation into phases, allowing you to complete the project over time while still working toward one cohesive finished landscape.
How long does the design and installation process take?
The design process can take anywhere from a week to a month or more, depending on the size of the project, the amount of client feedback and revisions, and whether other components or contractors need to be coordinated. Installation timelines vary based on the scope of work, material availability, weather, and other factors. Once the design and proposal are approved, we can provide a better idea of the expected schedule for your specific project.

Do you handle irrigation, drainage, and landscape lighting?
Yes. We can incorporate irrigation, drainage, and landscape lighting into the overall project. Looking at these components as part of the complete landscape allows us to create a more functional and cohesive finished property.
How do you select the right plants for my property?
Plant selection is based on much more than appearance. We consider sun exposure, drainage, soil conditions, mature plant size, maintenance requirements, and the overall design of the property. Our team includes two degreed landscape architecture graduates, holds local horticultural licenses, and brings more than 26 years of experience working with plants and landscapes in the New Orleans area. That combination of design education and local experience helps us select plants that not only look great, but are appropriate for our climate and your particular property.
Do you warranty your plants and installation?
Yes. When we install the irrigation system and provide the ongoing landscape maintenance, we warranty the plant material we install, subject to the terms of our warranty. This allows our team to make sure the new landscape is being properly watered and cared for after installation.
